The Ski/Snowboard Experience
The Zillertal offers one of the largest ski areas in Austria, with 13 resorts covered under 7 ski areas, and more than 630km of pistes & over 170 ski lifts. All of this is accessible with just one lift pass, making it one of the best value passes in western Europe.
The Hintertux Glacier offers guaranteed year round skiing & snowboarding, with excellent conditions in Autumn & Spring.
The Penken ski area includes the resorts of Eggalm, Raskögel, Finkenberg, Horberg and the Penken. This area contains the Vans Snow Park, almost twice as large as last year's, and a wide choice of restaurants and mountain huts. Finkenberg and the Penken are also popular take off points for the paraglider pilots.
The Ahorn is a fairly small resort but offers an ideal area for beginners or for your first day. Once you have found you ski legs, tackle the Ahorn Abfahrt back to the village.
Ramsau is one of the least known resorts in the Zillertal and for this reason, is very quiet. This enables the off piste snow to remain in better condition for longer and there is also a fantastic off piste run all the way to the valley floor.
The vast Zillertal Arena connects the resorts of Zell am Ziller, Gerlos, WaldKönigsleiten and Krimml. It is possible to ski from Zell am Ziller all the way to Krimml, but you need an early start and be aware of the lifts closing on your way back.
The resorts of Kaltenbach & Hochfügen were recently connected to form the Hochzillertal ski area. This area has as much off piste skiing as on piste, but do take notice of the avalanche warnings. A must to visit is the stunning Kristal Hütte, with fantastic food, stylish furniture and amazing views. Watch out for the larger than life sculptures.
Fügen is a quiet resort near the entrance of the valley. With older lifts and just a few runs, it is more popular for ski touring and off piste.
